As an inspiration behind Good News Garage and NeighborKeepers, his programs has been featured in People Magazine, Reader's Digest, the Today Show, Smithsonian Magazine, CBS Evening News, NBC Nightly News, and USA Today as well as on the National<br />Public Radio's All Things Considered.<br /><br />Good News Garage was founded in 1996 and became an effective tool for moving people from welfare to work by seeking donations of reliable cars for income-eligible people. It evolved through a social ministry program of Lutheran Social Services and has since provided more than 3,200 vehicles to low income families in New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Connecticut, Rhode Island and Vermont. Good News Garage car donation program accepts, repairs and awards donated vehicles to families. It also tows donated cars free of charge and has several “car donation drop-off locations” throughout New England.<br /><br />Every recipient pays something for his or her car depending on the financial capacity of the person and all vehicle donations are tax deductible.<br /><br />These vehicles have tremendously changed the lives of families and it has now become easier for them to access employment and job training especially to those who live far from these opportunities.<br /><br />Colston also established in 2004 NeighborKeepers. It is "an inclusive community built on meaningful relationships that generate Circles of Support, empowering families to create a sustainable path to adequate resources". NeighborKeepers is a non-profit organization<br />based out of the Winooski Community Center whose goal is to strengthen communities, one family at a time.
